Successful ending: Our 3. workshop
On April 8, 2024, numerous participants gathered for the third and final workshop of the iNEVER workshop series in presence at the Novotel at Vienna Central Station. The third and final "Ideas Breakfast" workshop of the Innovation Network for Traffic Avoidance (iNEVER) aimed to develop smart solutions for traffic avoidance through collaboration between science and practice. With a focus on sustainable mobility design, the participants gathered at the Novotel Wien Hauptbahnhof to exchange ideas and explore new paths together in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
Ideas breakfast in World Café format
- Passenger transport
- Which research topics could drive forward traffic avoidance in passenger transportation?
- What practical priorities should be set by 2030 in order to develop effective solutions?
- Freight transport
- Which research questions are crucial for improving traffic avoidance in freight transport?
- What strategic priorities should be set to achieve significant progress by 2030?
- Creation of a sustainable innovation network for traffic avoidance
- Which models are particularly promising for the establishment of such a network?
- How can individuals and organizations contribute to promoting smart traffic avoidance within this network?
Milestone for the iNEVER network
After intensive discussions and a lively exchange of ideas, the groups presented their results and findings. It became clear how diverse the approaches to the complex topic of traffic avoidance can be and how important it is to incorporate different perspectives.
The workshop ended in a relaxed atmosphere over lunch, which also marked the starting point for the 1st Mobility Conference. This event was not only an important milestone for the iNEVER network, but also an inspiring example of the power of collaboration and interdisciplinary exchange in shaping a sustainable future of mobility.
Results
Passenger traffic
The discussion emphasized the need to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and practical implementation in traffic avoidance and to involve all social stakeholders in the process. Priorities for further research included identifying avoidable passenger transportation, shortening commutes in companies, considering gender equality and inclusive mobility, and developing effective communication strategies.
Stakeholders should work together to achieve effective traffic avoidance. This requires close cooperation between research, administration, politics and civil society as well as continuous evaluation and adaptation of strategies and measures.
Freight transport
The future of traffic avoidance in freight transport is a complex challenge that requires the cooperation of various stakeholders. Consumers, legislators and logistics service providers must work together to develop innovative approaches to reduce the volume of traffic. In doing so, they must take into account the different needs and interests and find solutions that are both economically and ecologically sustainable. Successfully tackling this challenge requires close coordination and the use of new technologies and business models.
Creating a sustainable innovation network for traffic avoidance
iNEVER can serve as an information source, planning tool and support system for sustainable mobility and spatial planning with a focus on traffic avoidance.
The development of traffic avoidance measures must be carried out in close cooperation with stakeholders (politics, planning, experts, population).
